Great Reading For Both Design Beginners And Professionals
Born in early October, my constellation is Libra. It is said that every Libra is a born artist. It may not be accurate, but I am always interested in arts, including design, painting, music, etc. I took painting classes for two years when I was in junior middle school, however I didn’t continue to paint for some reasons. As a contrast, Physics Engineering became my major in college. And now, I am in the trading business! Life is just full of surprises. The comfort is that, I deal with wall décor related products here with WholePort. There are always artistic, beautiful home decoration products to look at.
So when our company, traditionally a trading and manufacturer, decided to launch the ecommerce business, and had a website, I felt somehow my artist dream had a place to grow. Graphic designing for webpages could be my moonlight career, maybe.
I tried, but had to give up. Web designing also requires professional training and practice, which couldn’t be obtained overnight. I had better remain to be a fan of this for the time being. But it is just always very good to learn new things- through learning at least I could be an aesthetician of designing, right? That’s how I stumbled upon Robin Williams’ Non-Designer’s Design Book. By its name only, the book sounded perfect for someone like me, a designing fan and layman. I have to say that I am grateful to come across a book like this. It came to be on the top of my “best-readings-of-the-year” list.
Robin Williams wrote the book in a very straight-forward but interesting way. Her way of introducing the design theory, the typefaces, and the colors, etc. are juicy and concise. A beginner as I was, what she meant to say was clear enough to be understood. Getting a professional look for your graphic design work is no easy. Talking about the basics with such great ease is amazing. Naturally, I went to look for other books by the author. Soon I decided my next big reading should be Design Workshop. Reading Robin Williams’ books cultivates my love for webpage designing for sure.
May you enjoy the joy of reading Robin Williams as well!
